“Dusk from Above”

The spill of light on the Fox River’s path
Descends upstream with seasons in transition
As I took myself to a perfect position from above
To capture this juxtaposition of balance between
a myriad of thoughts
of what was gained, of what was lost
Yes, the light was leaving this sun-painted sky
just as the chlorophyll departs on this deciduous tree
that i’m orbiting around from what was found up here
and i’m losing myself to the tranquility of it all
as these days become cooler-
as the leaves begin to fall
with this dusk from above…

“Rolling Hills of Hues”

The thrills that come with these rolling hills of hues during an afternoon where the sun remains absent and yet the echoes of its warmth emanate with peace became the memory I’d keep close for more than a little while. I’d climb to reach a summit view that few would afford the time of day for. And this site would play in my mind forever more as I would wonder what else these fall colors bring. From the surreal detail of trees closest to me, these treasures of autumn would have me in a gaze that seemed to dismiss space and time altogether. And it would prove best not to forget the silhouette of mountains dancing with the horizon that had no defining ending- for there could only be more on the other side. Each inhale of the brisk air followed with an exhale of intention to harmonize with the heartbeat inside me. And then it became clear that I was nowhere else but here- so far away from yesterday with no expectations for tomorrow. And these were the thrills that come with these rolling hills of hues during an afternoon where the sun remains absent and yet the echoes of its warmth emanate with peace to become the memory I’d keep close for more than a little while.

“Like a Rainbow with No Sun”

To know
Where the leaves go
That fall on these grounds
And land as rain drops do-
Random with those rustling sounds
Yet with deliberate purpose of asymmetry
With trunks that remain to be
So defined despite the wind
raking these green transitions
And sending lose branches in flowing positions
Playing to this daydream I’m in
For it is only with awe to see
Colors never still and still dancing with me
As my eyes continue to question
Which path to follow-
A prepared trail or a sudden suggestion
For my pride to swallow
Allowing me to view paired trunks
Leading my horizon a different way
Intended for the mind’s eye to only imagine
So perhaps I’ll simply stay
and just watch as if I knew
These lifeless bodies of vibrant colors
Running past my point of view
Like a rainbow with no sun
Do I see the only one
Which seems
So close
to me….

“Summer’s Scars”

In the midst of an autumn breeze, I spotted a leaf from the maple trees. They were standing by the shore of Lake Marmo at the Morton Arboretum on a cloudy and yet comfortable afternoon. And I knew that I had found the perfect view despite the changes that fall goes through- shedding so much green into yellows and reds. And then I noticed two scars that would remain instead of the absence from any previous season that the Midwest brings and with good reason to enjoy the transitions in a refreshed manner. Two steps forward and one step back was never meant to have its progress lack but perhaps to reflect on what it was meant to protect. For it was the memory of moments that moved me and the feelings renewed that proved free from an otherwise monotone day.

"This Windowed View of Change"

Days are few and far between where rays of meaning shine through for one to stop and see a windowed view of change. And all those New Year’s resolutions synced with the full circling of the sun didn’t seem to carry the true surroundings of reinvention let alone the intention of stopping this or starting that. Maybe the mere human being in me can’t quite grasp the bigger world of happenings which goes otherwise unnoticed in so many ways. And then I see those rays and blooming colors that only a fall morning can bring. And the world doesn’t seem so overwhelming- rather welcoming to the possibilities of an entire day waiting to be embraced.
