“In Autumn’s Absence”

A forest of trees vast in presence
hidden behind the venetian building blinds
Rustling in waiting further down each interstate
A melody to hear and then to contemplate
for in place of trunks remain skyscrapers
this strange city life that has many takers
with branches of illuminations
from both corporate and residential rooms
with the flux of varying populations
some coming, some going, some staying
activities including people watching
and people praying
and for all the western viewing metropolis
varying altitudes did not seem to matter
for a fall season’s color was carved this night
to stop and to stare, and to savor despite
a forest of trees vast in presence
hidden behind the venetian building blinds

“Solace by the Shore”

I found solace by the shore where the sunset wanted more than just a glimpse of its final exhales and beacon of light. For it is the moments after that star lays down that a sky’s embers burn with different flavors that one may savor if he or she can learn the virtue of patience. The sounds of the waves danced with a rhythm that had me listening for the very ending of an ebb or the very beginning of a flow. The faint aroma of the gulf’s air kept me there- in this awareness that the falling leaves back home were calling me to return when I was ready. And, for the first time that evening, I felt the warmth change in harmony with whatever the hue was painting an ever expanding canvas of atmosphere. For this is where I found solace by the shore where the sunset wanted more than just a glimpse of its final exhales and beacon of light…

“The Neighbor’s Labor on these Midwest Lands”

The silhouette of this tractor
and trees before a bordering creek
remain another factor
for generations to seek a tether
drawn to this purpose driven life
And such remains true
for a farmer and his wife…

From dusk until dawn
this “everyday” moves on
quite differently than times before-
when suburbia was not so far removed
when communities were next door
and that setting sun was shared…

For a farmer’s day
was never any less demanding
than any other neighbor’s labor
upon these Midwest Lands-
with equal focus of the mind
and hard-working hands…

And there remains a legacy
for this devoted lifestyle-
these guardians of both crops
and breathable horizons
where sky patterns roam free
from buildings and industry-
where the sun sets with no regrets
for supper will be ready soon
and complimenting dessert
will be a full moon with stars

Was there a mix of melancholy with grace that you would notice on my face if you saw me that day? Just as color seems so vibrant in the company of grey, and the road goes on and on with subtle rolling hills while those crops are watered with tears of compassion. And it wasn’t hard to make mention of the otherwise mundane trees that would shed more depth from the light which was absent up until now. I’d fancy this view even more if you’d answer your door just as the sun setting colors are knocking on those clouds to show the true beauty behind their endless textures. And here comes the clearing just from the east, and the breeze from the west felt so refreshing. I’ve been away for so long, searching for the meaning of things that don’t seem to have much meaning these days. And all I had to do was pull over and close my eyes, hearing your voice in a memory so vivid. How fond I’ve become to remember a summer season’s sentiments while winter still falls upon me. And when I saw this view while I thought of you, I knew it was time to come home soon…

The rear view mirror could not have been clearer compared to the coming storm coming towards me. I found an old field which would have appealed to anyone looking to recognize the beauty being presented for just moments. I sat on my car until I felt I was on par with this mood of surroundings serenading me with color. And I found what was missing for those who were kissing a fool named apathy. Sunrise or sunset, I’ll never feel regret for the never ending reasons to make the time to wear my heart on my sleeve...
